Going to university is a challenge you may still be considering. This site aims to help you make up your mind, or confirm your decision. We will give you impartial advice and practical information that relates to your situation.

You could be:

  • A mature student: aged 21 - 65+
  • A student with a disability, medical condition or mental health problem
  • Dyslexic
  • A single parent
  • The family wage earner
  • Someone looking to change career
  • The first person in your family to consider university
  • Balancing academic study with your cultural beliefs and traditions
  • Someone who has other issues - each student is an individual


Why use this site?


We have a lot of experience in supporting students through their university careers and enabling them to meet their full potential. We know that, along the way, there can be unexpected difficulties and barriers for very many students. We want to help you to prepare for university and to make the most of it when you get there. This site is intended for all students, not just those who have chosen UCE.

How to use this site

  • Look at some of the issues involved in university life before applying through UCAS
  • If you have already applied, look at what you can do to prepare yourself for university before you start
  • If you have not seriously considered university for any reason, look at what is available in terms of support and give it further consideration
  • If you are already at university - check out what you might be missing!
  • Use the resources and information to find out more about your entitlements
  • Use the self assessments to identify skills you might want to improve
