Introduction

Most students arrive at university requiring some assistance with study skills. For some students the transition from the FE learning environment to the HE learning environment is relatively simple, but for others it is not. All students can benefit from preparing their study skills ready for university.

Why is it important to tell students about study skills?

For many students 'study skills' is something they have developed over their time at college or school. This may have suited them in a FE setting, but at university they may find that the change in the learning environment or the ways of learning can sometimes prove challenging.

Where to get additional information

The Study Skills Team at any university will be pleased to offer advice and information. Contact details can usually be found through the university web site.

See also the useful links section in the right hand column.

From the student point of view

Some students may feel that their 'study skills' are not 'good enough' for university. Others, express doubts about how they will cope with their coursework and/or examinations.

Reassurance that assistance is available is important as this can help provide the student with strategies for coping with assignments, examinations, etc.
